Africa Eye Foundation establishes the Magrabi ICO Cameroon Eye Institute

The International Council of Ophthalmology (ICO), The Al Noor – Magrabi Foundation, a non-profit foundation organized in Egypt, and the That Every Life May Count (French language:  Afin Que Chaque Vie Compte) Foundation, a non-profit foundation organized in Switzerland have come come together, to establish the Africa Eye Foundation.  The Magrabi ICO Cameroon Eye Institute in Yaounde, Cameroon, is the first project of the Africa Eye Foundation.

The Mission of the Eye Institute is to train ophthalmologists and staff in Cameroon and French-Speaking Central West Africa to become the next generation of leaders and to provide high quality eye care services with subspecialties (currently unavailable in Central Africa) and outreach programs, minimizing the need to send patients abroad.

Dr Akef El-Maghraby, ICO’s Vice President and a principal donor, presented the following overview of the Magrabi ICO Cameroon Eye Institute.

The aim of this blog is to keep you updated on progress on the implementation of the Magrabi ICO Cameroon Eye Institute.

I am glad that development of this magnitude is coming to my home. Well i would like to find out if the facility is operational. My mom has been battling diabetes for years and her vision has been greatly affected. She has been recommended surgery but it is as it is I am skeptical as to the kind of eye care she might get and where. Landing on this kind of gave me some hope. Is this institute operational and what will it take to get her the care she so badly needs?
