Preventing eye injuries during the festive season

Eye injuries are known to increase during the Christmas and New Year season. The following tips could help reduce the risk of eye injuries to you and your loved ones:

1. Leave fireworks to professionals
2. Keep a good distance from fireworks and have a bucket of water ready, if you are part of the fireworks crew
3. Children should not handle fireworks
4. Children should never be given sparklers unsupervised
5. Sparklers and fireworks should be kept outside
6. Avoid giving kids toys with projectiles that could injure the eye
7. Champagne corks can cause serious and permanent damage to the eye if not handled properly.
